SAFETY - School Liaison Officers
The role of a Schools Liaison Officer
General
Like many Police forces, Bedfordshire Police realise the value of having a close working relationship with schools at all three levels, and in order to do this they have officers whose sole task it is to work with school staff, parents and carers, and of course, pupils. Schools liaison officers, as they are called, work closely with Heads, teachers and support staff to provide advice and information to the school, pupils and parents and to be there if a Police presence is required.
The Samuel Whitbread Pyramid SLO
The schools liaison officer for our pyramid of schools is PC Simon Rutt. PC Rutt is a very experienced Police Officer who takes a very pro-active attitude towards his duties and is a frequently seen face in all our schools, especially in the middle schools and Samuel Whitbread.
Simon ensures that in:
- Year 6 all pupils receive a one hour presentation on illegal drugs
- Year 7 all pupils receive a one hour presentation on Crime and Consequences
- Year 8 all pupils receive a one hour presentation on illegal drugs
- Year 8 all pupils receive a one hour presentation on Knife Crime
He also ensures that where and when it is needed, he works closely with pupils in Years 9, 10 and 11 at Samuel Whitbread to tackle Cyber-bullying and continues to reinforce his work at Middle schools concerning Knife Crime.
Simon’s on-going leadership in the field of anti-bullying and his regular presentations at schools concerning this topic have encouraged pupils who are being bullied, either physically or by cyber bullies, to come forward and report the matter and he has earned the reputation of being both fair and approachable.
You can contact PC Rutt to discuss, in confidence, any issue about which you think he could help: 01234 842843, or email him at simon.rutt@bedfordshire.pnn.police.uk
