SAFETY - Safer Neighbourhoods

Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams

Bedfordshire Police are very proactive when it comes to bringing communities and their officers together as this is a proven way to not only reduce crime and anti social behaviour, but also the fear of crime. It also helps neighbourhoods and areas to come together to improve where we live and raise community involvement.

In order to do this the Police use groups of uniformed Police Officers, Community Support Officers, members of the Special Constabulary and volunteers who work together as Safer Neighbourhood Teams. A visit to the Bedfordshire Police website will give you all the contact information you will need to get in touch with the team that covers your area.

On the main home page, look to the left of the page and will see a search box marked Safer Neighbourhoods. Simply enter your post code, road or village and click on the "Find SNT" button. The SNT responsible for where you live will be displayed. Many village shops also display posters with the team details and contact numbers.

You can talk to your Safer Neighbourhood Police Officer or Police Community Support Officer about anything which effects where you live, work, shop or spend your leisure time. The may not be able to come round to see you straight away as they may be at Court, on a course, on leave, or on other duties but you can be sure that if you have left a message for them to get in touch, they will contact you as soon as they can and, if they can't help you over the phone, they will make an appointment to call round to see you.

The teams take great pride in helping their particular neighbourhoods and they encourage residents and the public to take the same approach. They will help you do all manner of thing which can improve your area and the quality of life where you live.

Although you will almost certainly meet them if you are the victim of a crime, or if they are investigating a crime near where you live, they are available to help in many, many other ways. They can help you tackle anti-social behaviour, they can help with illegally parked or dumped vehicles. They will be able to help you with home security issues, or advice on avoiding door step crime. They can also be there to assist if you want to start a "No Cold Calling Zone" or Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

If you a member of a group or organisation they can often come along and talk to you all together about what they do, and how they do it, and give you some tips to avoid being the victim of crime. For more information about "No Cold Calling Zones", anti-social behaviour and Neighbourhood Watch schemes, have a look in the BEST Advice "Safety" category. You will also find information about how to beat the door step criminal and lots of other crime prevention advice in the "Home Security" section.
