PARENTS & CARERS - Parenting Support

BEST Advice is about one thing; the web site and the people who put it all together have but one simple aim:

To help you do the difficult job of being a parent.

We are happy to say that we are not alone in this aim, and on BEST Advice you will find links and addresses to other excellent web sites and organisations who hold the same aim, such as Parent-Line Plus, and Inform 0-19.

Central Bedfordshire Council also realise that being a parent isn't always a smooth ride and they run courses for parents to help them deal with some of the more common issues which arise. These are called "Parenting Programmes" and are suitable for Mums, Dads and primary carers.

What's on offer includes:

  • Drug Proofing Your Kids
  • Incredible Years
  • One Stop Parent Shop
  • Parenting Puzzle
  • Speakeasy with a Difference
  • Strengthening Families 10 – 14
  • Triple P (0 – 12’s)
  • Teen Triple P (12 – 16’s)

These programmes aren't like going back to school, far from it. They let parents and carers build on what they already know and help them do the job of being a parent to the best of their ability. They don't do this by talking at you, or lecturing you, but by providing the opportunity for you to gain more knowledge on certain issues and as a result increase your skills.

What you do learn will help support your family, increase your confidence, and strengthen the relationship you have with your family.

Central Bedfordshire Council have published a very informative booklet about the scheme. To read it in full, simply click on the link below. Remember, you will need Adobe to read it but if you don't have Adobe installed on your computer you can download it for free from the homepage of BEST Advice.

If you need any more information the parent support office at Central Bedfordshire Council will be happy to help, and you can contact them through the CBC switchboard on 0300 300 8000 or by email at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk
