FUN - Transport History
The Nene Valley Railway
If you want to show your children transport from a bygone time, you could do no better than a visit to the Nene Valley Railway.
The NVR is seven and a half miles of fully operational standard gauge railway which operates between Yarwell Junction and Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. Its headquarters are based at Wansford on the A1. Steam locomotives carry passengers along the route and this is one of the very few attractions of its type in the region.
You can access the service from any of the five stations it services, some of which have no parking facilities; some charge and others are free.

Admission details
The Nene Valley Railway website gives details of when the service operates which is important as NVR use several different timetables throughout the year. Disabled access to trains and other facilities are available and NVR ask that you let them know in advance if you have a disability and are planning a visit as it helps them to know you are coming.
Tickets last you all day so you can come and go on the trains as often as you wish throughout the day. Ticket prices are £12 for an adult, £6 for a child and £30 for a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children. These prices increase slightly on special event days so check the NVR website or call the railway stations master's office on 01780 784444 for more information.
Getting there
Wansford Station is situated just off the A1 near the A47 interchange in Stibbington and offers free parking. The SatNav post code is PE8 6LR. The web site does say to not go to Wansford village as the station is just outside, but the station is clearly signposted. Full directions are given on the NVR website.
