Film Classification System
Fancy a trip to the pictures to see the latest Hollywood blockbuster? You've checked the BEST Advice cinema listing page to find a cinema, but not sure if the films its showing are right for your children? Or maybe you fancy a night in with a DVD? But how can you tell if something you want to watch is going to be right for you and your family. Is it worth going to see or renting, what's it about, who's in it? Here are some good ways to give you that information.
Firstly, the British Board of Film Censors (BBFC) have a superb website that will help you understand the current classification system. The BBFC views every single film released for public viewing and grade it according to its content so you have an idea what's in it and if it is suitable for younger children, or whether older kids need to have an adult with them to see it. The BBFC have kindly let BEST Advice reproduce the classifications here.

The BBFC also has sections covering DVD's and video games and a very good advice section for parents. At the bottom of the BBFC website home page there are direct links to other BBFC sites aimed specifically at:
This is a very comprehensive set of linked sites which contains a host of information you can use in deciding if a film, DVD or game is suitable for your children. If you cannot find the information on the database then you can e-mail the BBFC and they will reply with as much information as they have on file. One of the team at BEST Advice is a movie nut and he pointed us towards what is probably the most comprehensive free database for films in the world. The site is called Internet Movie Database, or Imdb for short, and has a listing for just about every film ever made and new releases are usually added on the day they come out.
Found at www.imdb.com this site contains just about every single thing you could need to know about a movie, from the plot, to the filmographies of the director and actors. If you are a trivia fan, each film has a section covering that as well as goofs and gaffs which got left in. It links to other film sites which have sound tracks, stills and sound clips from the film so if you fancy Rambo as your ringtone, or Steve McQueen as your screensaver, now you can have it.
